Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. is now urging parents to vaccinate their children against measles.
That is a striking shift from the man who spent years arguing that vaccines were not tested thoroughly enough and calling for “safer vaccines.”
So what changed?
Was the MMR vaccine reformulated? Were questionable ingredients removed? Were new long-term safety studies completed? Did Kennedy find evidence that resolved his earlier concerns?
So far, he has not explained.
Kennedy now says the measles vaccine is effective and that people should get it. But effectiveness is not the same as safety. The MMR vaccine, like all medical products, carries known risks and possible side effects.
My position is simple: no vaccine should be described as completely safe. Vaccines contain chemicals and biologically active ingredients and can cause severe adverse reactions.
Kennedy built his reputation by demanding transparency and stronger safety testing. If new evidence changed his mind, he should release it. But it is my opinion that he won’t because he’s a performer like so many others.
