Reports of Adverse Reactions to COVID Vaccine

To date, Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) has not detected patterns in cause of death that would indicate a safety problem with COVID-19 vaccines.

Over 211 million doses of COVID-19 vaccines were administered in the United States from December 14, 2020, through April 19, 2021. During this time, VAERS received 3,486 reports of death (0.0016%) among people who received a COVID-19 vaccine. CDC and FDA physicians review each case report of death as soon as notified and CDC requests medical records to further assess reports. A review of available clinical information including death certificates, autopsy, and medical records revealed no evidence that vaccination contributed to patient deaths. CDC and FDA will continue to investigate reports of adverse events, including deaths, reported to VAERS.

The PDF you link to reports the deaths but crucially fails to do two things. It neither contextualizes the deaths nor does it demonstrate a causal link in each case. Thousands have died, yes. *But* we’re talking about four months here. Hundreds of thousands of people die in a four month period in the United States. If there was one day of vaccination and all these people dropped dead in one day fair enough. Also, the number of doses matter – now, if there were 3,486 doses and 3,486 deaths I wouldn’t go near that vaccine. But there have been 211 *million* doses and 3,486 (at the time of reporting, April 20th) – so given that hundreds of thousands of people die in a four month period in the US it’s unremarkable that some people have died (Number of deaths [annually]: 2,854,838 https://www.cdc.gov/nchs/fastats/deaths.htm)

So we’ve shown that while every death is a loss to someone people dying after receiving a vaccine shot is not an unusual occurrence. The thing that needs to happen is that someone shows that the two events are correlated. Literally that there is causal relation. Clearly evidence is mounting that the vaccines based on the adenovirus methodology are causing rare clotting events, and in some cases this is leading to death. So I do not buy the CDC’s claim that *all* the vaccines are safe and effective (insofar as all vaccines are safe and effective: nobody sensible has ever claimed that vaccine injections have zero harmful side effects for 100% of people; nothing foreign that is introduced into the body can make that claim.) . Clearly the AstraZeneca and Jannsen (Johnson&Johnson) vaccines are relatively less safe. If I had a choice I’d obviously ask for either the Moderna or Pfizer BioNTech. Of course I’d prefer not to have to get any vaccine but given the lethality of Sars-Cov-2 that’s not an option for any rational individual.
